Weekend Results

posted by jimharshaw on April 14, 2010, 8:59am

CWC Scholastic wrestlers are making noise locally and regionally.  Jeffrey Sisk won the MAWA qualifying tournament and is advancing to the national championships in MD next month!  Justin Zimmerman finished 6th in the same event.

Christian Chirico and Zach Morris both finished 2nd place at a tournament in southwest Virginia losing close battles in the finals to state runner-ups.
Congrats to these young athletes for going the extra mile in the off-season!  More spring and summer results to come!

Interview with 197 lb Senior Brent Jones

posted by jimharshaw on February 16, 2010, 12:38pm

Q;  How have you felt about your recent performance?

A: I have competed alright I think.  I am definitely starting to wrestle like I should and getting ready to peak for ACC's and nationals.  I am my hardest critic so I am not wrestling the way I want just yet, but that will come at the right time in March.

Q: How is this season going compared to last season?

A:  This season has definitely been a roller coaster with plenty of ups and downs.  Last season I was more consistent I think and wrestled better overall throughout the year.  With that said, I think I am setting myself up for my best run in the post-season right now.  I like being overlooked by my competition instead of seen as a target.

Q:  What do you feel like your team is doing well this year as compared to last year?

A: I think this year we are more cohesive as a unit.  We have more people stepping up at every weight and contributing to an overall better team performance.  Even with injuries, the guys who are stepping in the line-up are ready to wrestle and are wrestling well, whereas last year some guys couldn't cut it.  This year I see our hard work paying big dividends with history being made in the post-season.

Q:  Where does the team need to improve?

A:  You can never not improve in conditioning.  We keep getting better and better in this department, which will set us apart from everyone else in the end. Technically we can improve on imposing our will from the very beginning of the match, with hand fighting and being ready to defend shots with our hips.  There are more things that everyone needs to improve on, but we are heading in the right direction as a unit with common goals instead of just individuals.
